Biography

Dr. Defraeye grew up in Mulhouse, France, about 20 minutes away both from Germany and Switzerland. After a B.A. in English at the Université de Strasbourg, he came to Waterloo, Ontario as an exchange student, and taught French as a second language at the University of Waterloo for a year. He decided to stay in Waterloo for an M.A. in French Studies under the supervision of Professor François Paré and then for a Ph.D. in French Studies under the supervision of Professor Élise Lepage. He has taught French language and francophone cultures and literatures at the University of Waterloo, St. Jerome’s University, Wilfrid Laurier University and Brock University and he is now proud to call St. Thomas University and Fredericton home.
