The Political Science Department at St. Thomas University is sponsoring a public forum to discuss the US invasion and coercion of Venezuela and its larger implications for the international system and Canada. The speakers will be Dr. Laura Levick (St. Thomas), Dr. Shaun Narine (St. Thomas) and a special guest speaker, Dr. Carsten Schulz of Cambridge University.

The US invasion and coercion of Venezuela marks a new chapter in the Trump administration’s approach to the international system. The invasion exemplifies American foreign policy as defined by the recent National Security Strategy, which is that the entire Western hemisphere and all its resources belong to the United States. Any country that resists American domination will pay a price, up to and including invasion and dispossession.
