February is Black History Month, and the STU Black Students' Association and STU African and Caribbean Student Club, in collaboration with Cultural Diversity Coordinator Saa Andrew Gbongbor, will be hosting events aimed at promoting awareness and education.

Week One: Community, Connection, and Expression
OPENING CEREMONY

Join us for the opening ceremony celebrating the legacy, resilience, and excellence of Black communities, in alignment with the 2026 theme. Refreshments will also be served.
BLACK Q&A BOOTH
Wednesday, February 4 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM | JDH and the Great Hall
An opportunity for students to ask respectful and educational questions about Black culture, history, and lived experiences.
COOKING CLASSES (BLACK CANADIAN AND WEST AFRICAN DISHES)
Thursday, February 5 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Wabanaki Centre Kitchen and Campus Ministry Kitchen
A celebration of Black food culture through cuisine and storytelling. Meals are selected via Instagram polls, with all ingredients, equipment, and mentorship provided.
MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, February 6 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Ted Daigle Auditorium
A movie night centred on the history, resistance, and resilience of Black history. The film is selected through social media polls. Free entry with popcorn and refreshments provided.

A relaxed panel discussion amplifying Black student voices, lived experiences, challenges, and moments of joy.
DRESS LIKE A BHM DAY: SPEED DATING – VALENTINE’S EDITION
Friday, February 13 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | JDH
An interactive evening social designed to foster meaningful connections across cultures. Participants will register and share conversation prompts or “hot takes.” Attendees dress as Black leaders or changemakers, with music, refreshments, and a historical guessing game included.
Week Three: Culture, Creativity and Joy
DANCE WORKSHOP
Monday, February 16 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM | J.B. O'Keefe Fitness Centre Squash Court
Led by professional dancers, participants will learn and perform a choreographed routine highlighting the influence of Black culture on music and dance.
HAIR AND BEADS WORKSHOP
Tuesday, February 17 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Wabanaki Centre
A hands-on learning session focused on braiding, Black hair care, and the cultural significance of Black hairstyles.
ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITION
Wednesday, February 18 | All Day | GMH Lobby
Displays highlighting Black excellence across continents, including firsts in science, technology, politics, sports, arts, and education.
BLACK JOB & ENTREPRENEURSHIP WORKSHOP
Thursday, February 19 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM | JDH Lounge
This workshop provides participants with practical tools for job readiness, career development, and entrepreneurship. The session aims to empower attendees, build confidence, and foster meaningful connections within the Black community.
