Professor Léo-James Lévesque’s Book Selected for Special Project at Children’s Hospital

Education Professor and children’s author Léo-James Lévesque understands the impact literature can have on young minds, particularly those in difficult situations.

 

His children’s book Aux pinceaux, Domino, has recently been chosen to be part of L’heure du conte, a story time project at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal, the largest pediatric health centre in Canada. As part of the project, the hospital selected children's books and transformed them into animated videos that would be streamed into the children's rooms as part of a story time. This initiative aims to bring joy and storytelling to the hospital's young patients, providing them with moments of escape and creativity during their stays.

 

"I am honoured to have this story included in this meaningful initiative,” Lévesque said. “Since a very young age, I understood that stories have the power to uplift and inspire, especially for children facing challenging times."

 

The project was launched in October at a special event. Guests enjoyed an exclusive preview of the 10 stories selected to be animated into short videos, showcasing the collaborative efforts of talented artists and creators involved in the project.

 

“L’heure du conte represents a significant effort to bring hope, healing, and joy to young patients,” Lévesque added. “With its focus on storytelling and community engagement, the evening was a memorable celebration that emphasized the importance of reading and imagination in the healing process. This heartwarming event resonated deeply with all who believe in the transformative power of stories.”

Lévesque, who has been writing since the age of 11, attributes his love for storytelling to his father, who shared a story with him and his siblings each night before bed. 

 

"Une histoire… c’est un héritage précieux à transmettre aux enfants," he reflected, emphasizing the value of stories as a cherished legacy to pass down to future generations.

 

This early introduction to storytelling instilled in him the passion for writing that continues to this day.
