The Holt government has ordered an independent review of NB Power, pressured to do so by rising power costs to customers, and in the context of federal climate change rules (which may be gone by the time of the lecture), failed attempts to establish a new nuclear power hub, and looming multi-billion dollar costs to maintain existing generating infrastructure. Successive bad decisions by utility leadership and governments since the 1970s are now coming home to roost, with the real prospect of yet more bad decisions being made to try to keep the boat afloat. Looking at NB Power through the lens of climate change, Dr. Harvey argues that a fundamental course change is needed and question whether this latest manifestation of utility and political leadership is up to the task.
