Fine Arts Students Launch Three Research Books

The Office of Research Services is celebrating the launch of three books developed by Fine Arts students at STU and their professor William Forrestall.

About the Books
PERDITIO INGENII: Paintings by Hans Wendt
A 129-page text on the paintings of Hans Wendt, with written contributions from Ihor Holubizky, Terry Graff, and Jordan Beaulieu and an in-depth interview by the students of FNAR 1333a Drawing and Sketching I.
Hans Wendt lives and works in Millvale, PEI. He began painting seriously following studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design in the 1990s. Since 1999 he has turned his focus to the creation of conceptually driven watercolour paintings.
Recent public gallery exhibitions include “Oh, Canada”, MASS MoCA, Massachusetts, Esker Foundation, Calgary and Gallerie d’Art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen, Moncton NB; “Hans Wendt/Studio Painting”, Confederation Centre Art Gallery; and “In/Flux: Migrating Culture and Cultural Modernism in PEI”, Confederation Centre Art Gallery.
In 2013 he was long-listed for the Sobey Art Award. His work is in the public collections of the Confederation Centre Art Gallery, National Gallery of Canada and the Department of Global Affairs, Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank and many private collections across Canada and the United States.
Stephanie Weirathmueller Gentle Work: A Series of Meditative Works of Art and Poetry
A 70-page text on the drawings of Stephanie Weirathmueller, with written contributions from Marie Fox, Veronique Theriault and an in depth interview by the students of FNAR 1633a Drawing and Sketching II.
Stephanie Weirathmueller is a Fredericton based artist. She grew up on Crabbe Mountain, New Brunswick. And earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, specializing in painting and printmaking, Her work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions including the Beaverbrook Art Gallery studio watch series.
Jared Betts 2004-2024
A 200-page book, offering a 20-year career survey of the paintings of Jared Betts. An extensive open forum interview with the St. Thomas University students of the FNAR-2193 Concepts in Painting Class. And a selection of essays on the artists work by leading arts writers.
Jared Betts earned a BFA from NSCAD University and has exhibited in over 200 exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris, New York, London, Iceland, Germany, Costa Rica, and across Canada.
Betts has received thirteen ArtsNB grants and four New Brunswick Tourism, Culture, and Heritage grants. In addition, he has taken part in several artist residencies, from the land of fire and ice in Iceland and a castle in Ireland, to spending half a year in the jungles of Costa Rica, resulting in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Costa Rica.
Jared Betts's paintings are included in numerous corporate and private collections in Paris, Toronto, Montreal, LA, China, Australia, and Iceland. Betts lives and works out of a new studio in a lush green valley between two mountains, with a river in the front yard, where he paints and gardens all day in Sussex, New Brunswick.
