This year's Creamer lecture will be delivered by Dr. Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard, Université de Moncton School of Nursing. In her lecture, “Rethinking Long-Term Care: Let’s Talk About Aging in Place”, Dr. Dupuis-Blanchard will discuss the necessity of reevaluating our long-term care system. She will address the transition from a deficit-reactive approach to promoting healthy aging, taking into account the challenges posed by population aging.
Dr. Dupuis-Blanchard will challenge the current approach to long-term care to be inclusive of aging in place. She will share her knowledge on aging in place, including the benefits and challenges, along with her reflections on the necessary transformation of care needed for older adults. She will also provide examples of successful aging in place models, including one being implemented in New Brunswick.
Dr. Dupuis-Blanchard is a registered nurse, professor at the School of Nursing, Research Chair on Population Aging, and Director of the Centre on Aging at Université de Moncton. She is the past Chairperson of the National Seniors Council, past President of the Canadian Association on Gerontology, and co-chaired the Government of New Brunswick Council on Aging for the development of the provincial strategy on aging.
She has 32 years of experience in the field of aging, first as a community health nurse and now as a professor and researcher. Her research focuses on the multiple facets of aging in place for which she recently developed the Nursing Home Without Walls model. Her research also has a special interest for older adults living in Official Language Minority Communities.
