7-9 PM
UNB Campus - Student Union Building Atrium (Near Tim Hortons)
The Campus Sexual Assault Support Advocate Team will be hosting "Crafting Connections: A Survivor Love Letter Workshop” an event that aims to foster a sense of community and support by inviting students to create heartfelt messages for survivors of sexual violence. The Survivor Love Letter writing movement was created by filmmaker and activist, Tani Ikeda in 2012, when on the anniversary of her assault, she ended a letter written to her past self with the words: “this is my survivor love letter”. the Survivor Love Letter Campaign has since taken off, becoming a social media movement, a mural project, and a letter writing campaign hosted by universities and colleges across the country.
During the event, survivors, support people, friends, and loved ones can come create their own Survivor Love Letter. There will be prompts available to aid in the writing process, but the messages can be as simple as “I believe you”. There will also be a variety of crafting supplies available to use. This event encourages students to channel their creativity as they design words of comfort and support for survivors, using a variety of materials to convey messages of strength, resilience, and collective care.
Open to all UNB, STU, and NBCC students.
