Award-winning health journalist André Picard will deliver this year’s Dalton Camp Lecture in Journalism at St. Thomas University. The lecture will take place on Thursday, February 23 at 7 pm in the Kinsella Auditorium, McCain Hall. The lecture will be recorded for broadcast by CBC Radio’s Ideas.In his talk, “Pot, Policy and Pandemics: Reflections on 40 years of health journalism,” Picard will discuss how health care and health journalism have changed over the decades and where he believes they are headed in the future.André Picard is the health columnist for The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of six bestselling books.His latest book, Neglected No More: The Urgent Need To Improve The Lives Of Canada's Elders In The Wake Of A Pandemic, was a national bestseller and was shortlisted for both the Balsillie Prize and the Donner Prize, Canada’s top awards for non-fiction books. Forbes Magazine said that “Neglected No More is a powerful, well-researched, eloquently written book that dives deep into why and how Canada fails its elders.”   

In 2021 Picard was named as Canada's top columnist at the National Newspaper Awards, Canada’s top journalism prize. He is a past winner of the prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism. He was also named Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” by the Canadian Public Health Association, as a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication to improving healthcare.  

Picard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from seven universities, including UBC and the University of Toronto.
